Scoil Treasa

Newsletter 5                                                                                     December 2009

 

  1. Dates to remember:     
    • Christmas Holidays:                  Tuesday 22nd   @ 12pm.
    • School reopens:                         Thursday January 7th 2010
    • Staff Meeting:                           Friday January 22nd (12.30p.m. closure)
  1. The school has made a donation of €725 to St. Vincent De Paul.  The money was raised on our colour day last Friday.  The money will be used to help those less fortunate in our community.
  1. Sponsored Spell. A big thank you to all families for their fantastic support.  We raised in the region of €8369.   The money will be spent on acquiring I.T. equipment and interactive whiteboards for classes.
  1. Christmas Competitions:  We have an Art, Poetry and Story Writing competitions in all classes in the lead up to Christmas.  Well done to all the pupils who participated.
  1. Congratulations to our Hallelujah Choir on a fantastic performance in the R.D.S on Sunday December 13th.  Thanks to Mrs. O’ Neill for all her hard work.
  1. Pantomimes:  Our 3rd/ 4th Classes paid visited to ‘The Helix’ for Cinderella.  The children really enjoyed their day out and it was a great opportunity to view a live performance.
  1. Credit Union:  In January 2009 we began  a saving scheme for 5th class pupils in conjunction with our local Credit Union. This has now expanded to 6th classes.  The Staff from the Credit Union visit the school on Wednesdays at assembly.  The Credit Union Quiz will take place in early February.
  1. Our school has a very festive feel at present.  Many classes have produced Christmas shows/nativity plays with parents and grandparents being entertained on a daily basis. Our crib is very beautifully decorated and the classrooms and corridors are splendid with Christmas themes all over.
  1. On Tuesday next we have a special Carol Service for all pupils in the school hall at 11 o’ clock. The pupils and teachers have been practising the carols each day. We look forward to a lovely ceremony to end the school term.
  1. Swimming will begin for our 4th classes on Tuesday January 12th in Templeogue College Pool.  A note has been issued to classes.
  1. Chess Club will resume in January 2010. Pupils in 5th /6th classes will have an opportunity to play and perhaps progress to our school team.
  1. Our community Garda, Danielle Cummins, has been visiting our classes to talk with pupils about personal safety issues and the role of the Gardaí in the community.
  1. Our sympathy to Rita Kelly, secretary of our Parents’ Association on the death of her mother. Also our thoughts are with Kathleen Connors (5th Class) and her family at this time with the untimely death of her mother, Mary Lou.
  1. On behalf of the Board of Management and all the staff of Scoil Treasa I would like to wish all our pupils and their families a very happy and peaceful Christmas. Thank you to all the boys and girls for working so hard this term and we look forward to 2010 being another excellent year for  Scoil Treasa
