Newsletter 3:               SCOIL TREASA                  December 2015

1. Dates to remember

      • Christmas Holidays:                Tuesday 22nd December @ 12p.m.
      • School reopens:                       Wednesday  January 6th 2016

2. The pupils have made a donation of €868 to St. Vincent De Paul.  The money was raised on our colour day last Friday in conjunction with the Student Council. The money will be used to help those less fortunate in our community.

3. Ms Proctor’s 6th class ‘Christmas Mug Project’ went very well also . To date they have collected in the region of €1200 which will go to Focus Ireland to help combat homelessness in our city. A big thank you to all the pupils for their hard work.

4. Our school has a very festive feel at present.  Many classes have produced Christmas shows/nativity plays/choirs with parents and grandparents being entertained on a daily basis. Our crib is very beautifully decorated and the classrooms and corridors are splendid with Christmas themes all over.    We brought two groups over to the Firhouse Day Centre. They performed a Christmas play and the choir sang carols.

5. On Tuesday 22nd we have a special Carol Service for all pupils in the school hall at 11.15 a.m. The pupils and teachers have been practising the carols each day. We look forward to a lovely ceremony to end the school term.

6. Swimming will begin for three our 4th classes on Tuesday January 12th in Templeogue College Pool.  A note will be issued to classes.  The other 4th class (Ms Murray’s) will go swimming after mid- term in February.

7. Congratulations to our two basketball teams on reaching their finals which were played in the National Basketball Arena on Monday December 7th.  They performed brilliantly with a win for the boys and a narrow defeat for the girls.

8. This term saw a huge amount of sporting activity throughout the school – camogie, boys’ football, girls’ football, hurling, indoor hurling, basketball, athletics and cross country running.  Well done to all involved.

9. All classes attended Mass on December 8th-Feast of the Immaculate Conception and will be attending also on Wednesday January 6th –The Feast of the Epiphany

10. Our ‘Connect’ Group has been active this term with two ICT evening for senior citizens taking place in the school.  Well done to all concerned

11. Chess Club, IT Club, Drama Club and Book Club – initiatives of our Student Council -  are up and running and are hugely popular with the pupils.

12. Our new Board of Management took office on December 1st 2015. The members are:  Fr. Peter Reilly, (Chairperson)  Mary Murray, John O’ Donnell, Audrey Lydon, Mairín Heffernan, Gerard O’ Meara, Nathalie Ward and Jackie Martin.

13. Enrolment for September 2016 will start in January with a closing date of Friday January 29th. Application forms will be delivered to 2nd Class pupils in Scoil Carmel on January 8th.

14. On behalf of the Board of Management and all the staff of Scoil Treasa I would like to wish all our pupils and their families a very happy and peaceful Christmas. Thank you to all the boys and girls for working so hard this term and we look forward to 2016  being another excellent year for  Scoil Treasa.
