Parents Association

Scoil Treasa Parents’ Association
Newsletter September 2013

Welcome Back everyone. Hope you all had a brilliant Summer - it’s the first Summer in a long time that we cannot complain about the weather!! And a very special welcome to all the new families with children in 3rd class.

As some of you may be aware, there had been plans to locate two new schools beside the Firhouse Community Centre. Although the parents had no objection to the building of new schools in the area, the location caused many concerns. Both Parents Associations from Scoil Carmel and Scoil Treasa made a submission voicing their concerns. You will be pleased to hear that the Part 8 application to build new schools has been suspended indefinitely and the Council and Department of Education are looking for an alternative site. We wish them luck in their endeavours.

Unfortunately, due to further cuts in the Department of Education, the class sizes in our school are at risk of being increased yet again. Mr O’Meara will be sending a letter home explaining this issue further and we would encourage all parents to sign the petition to “Protect Primary Education”.

Fundraising: The school has had a lot of necessary works carried out over the Summer to the tune of €40,000. As you know we have various fundraising events throughout the school year and all money raised this year will go towards recovering some of this cost. So, once again we will be asking for your support. Our first fundraiser is on Friday November 8th. We are asking you to do a big clear out of old clothes, etc and bring them to the school. Liberties Recycling will pay us an agreed amount per bag collected. Watch out in your children’s school bag for a reminder and more details nearer the time!.

Our Christmas Fair in conjunction with Scoil Carmel last December was a huge success - not just in terms of monies raised but in terms of fostering a community spirit and an afternoon of enjoyment. So, SAVE THE DATE, we’re doing it again!! Sunday December 1st in the community centre should be another wonderful afternoon to remember. Again watch out in your children’s school bag for updates!!

Our A.G.M. will be taking place this year on Tuesday 15th October @ 7.00p.m.. All parents are welcome and it gives you an opportunity to meet other parents, to hear all about what we do during the year and to decide if you would like to join us. You do not have to be or become a member to attend. We also hope to arrange a guest speaker on the night - Watch your child’s bag for more information!!
This year, the parent body will be electing a new female representative to the Board of Management. Natalie Ward will be stepping down as parents representative as her daughter has graduated from primary school. A great big Thanks to Natalie and a bigger Good Luck to her daughter! If you would like to nominate a parent to the Board, please fill in the slip below and return it in a clearly marked envelope to the secretary’s office. If there is one nomination, that person is deemed elected. If there is more than one nominee (sounds like the Oscars!), each nominee will be asked to speak to those present at the A.G.M. A vote will take place and a nominee will be deemed elected.
